Hendersonville went on the road and found a way to win a tough defensive battle at Shelbyville by a score of 14-12.
Shelbyville would receive the opening kickoff and gain a couple of first downs before HHS forced a field goal attempt. The 29 yard attempt would by blocked by #10 Ellis Ellis. The COMMANDOS would not start well as they would fumble on their 3rd snap after getting a penalty to begin the drive. The turnover would give the Golden Eagles a 1st and goal, however, the Black & Gold defense would come up big stopping SCHS on 4 plays giving HHS the ball back. Hendersonville would punt after 3 plays, #97 Quentin Hagan would do a great job getting the punt off, and #17 Ayden Powell would get the ball back for HHS after a Golden Eagle fumble. Hendersonville would move the ball down the field, helped with a couple of SCHS penalties and their drive would end with a 16 yard touchdown run by #25 Torin Baker to give the COMMANDOS a 7-0 lead after #15 Asher Good hit the point after. Shelbyville would answer with a scoring drive of their own, but Ellis would block the PAT keeping Hendersonville up 7-6. The teams would trade punts and then Hendersonville would turn the ball over with another fumble. Following the turnover, tackles for loss by #1 Jameson Wharton and #88 Jack Busey would help force another punt. Late in the 1st half, Hendersonville would get the ball moving as #11 Luke Manning would pass to Ellis for a 1st down followed by a 1st down run by #32 Noah Carmean. The drive would end in disaster for Hendersonville as the Golden Eagles would pick up a fumble and return it 48 yards for a touchdown. HHS would stop a 2 point try to make the score 7-12 going into halftime.
A good return on the opening kickoff by Wharton would be negated due to penalty, but HHS would still look good coming out of the locker room with 1st down runs by #26 Stevin Mack and Ellis, but a sack would force a punt. After picking up a 1st down with a penalty, Ellis would intercept a SCHS pass and return it 75 yards to the endzone to give Hendersonville the lead back, Good would be true on the extra point, and HHS led 14-12. On the ensuing possession, a tackle for loss by #56 Kyle Duvall would force a turnover on downs, but HHS would go 3 & out. Defensive plays by #44 Dannen Kondus and #3 Brice Howden would force the Golden Eagles to punt. Hendersonville would put together a nice drive overcoming a couple of penalties and getting a 1st down run by Ellis followed with a run by Mack that set up 1st & goal. A Mack touchdown would be negated by penalty and Hendersonville would not convert a 4th down attempt as their pass would be incomplete in the endzone. With time running out, Shelbyville would pick up a first down before failing on a 4th down giving Hendersonville the ball back and the COMMANDOSwere able to run out the clock and get the win.
