The COMMANDOS secure their third consecutive Region title with a 62-12 victory at Rossview. The previous two Region titles were in Region 4-6A while this year Hendersonville has won Region 5-6A.
Hendersonville jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter with a 4 yard TD run by #32 Noah Carmean and a 37 yard TD run by #25 Torin Baker. Between the scoring drives by HHS, the COMMANDO defense would force a 3 & out helped by a tackle for loss by #2 Landon Barton and #20 Prince Vance. Rossview would get a drive started, picking up a 1st down through the air and one on the ground before #13 Jack Brown would defend a 4th down pass attempt that would give the ball back to Hendersonville. This COMMANDO possession would go into the 2nd quarter with 1st down runs by #10 Ellis Ellis and Torin Baker. The drive would end with Carmean going into the endzone for the 2nd time, this time with an 11 yard run. HHS would miss the PAT to make the score 20-0. Hendersonville would turn the ball over on their next two possession by throwing an interception followed by a fumble while Rossview would punt on their next two drive as they were unable to capitalize on the COMMANDO mistakes. Big defensive plays would be made by Carmean, #4 Cooper Dean, #48 Anthony Christian, and Ellis helping force the punts. On the COMMANDOS last drive before halftime, Carmean would have a 1st down run, and #11 Luke Manning would find #1 Jameson Wharton for a 1st down pass before Torin Baker scored his 2nd touchdown of the night, this time from 17 yards out making the score 27-0 as the teams broke for halftime.
Barton would recover a Hawk fumble on the 1st possession of the 2nd half, and on the 2nd play following the turnover, #26 Stevin Mack would score and after the PAT by #37 Thomas Matchell, the score would be 34-0. A tackle for loss by Carmean would help HHS force another 3 & out, then he would score for the 3rd time with a 12 yard run. #15 Asher Good would add this PAT to make the score 41-0. #33 Dale Payne would get a sack on the ensuing Hawk drive helping the COMMANDOS get a turnover on downs. #44 Dannen Kondus would score on the following drive with a 7 yard touchdown run. Rossview would score with a 64 yard TD pass to make the score 48-6, then Hendersonville would throw another interception leading to another Hawk score, this one a 4 yard TD pass. Vance would rip off a 60 yard run for another HHS score and #6 Reagan O’Bryan would add the point after to make the score 55-12. On the next possession, #27 Justin Zugar would come up with an interception to give HHS the ball. #17 Ayden Powell would score on a 60 run for the final score of the night making the score 62-12 and the clock would run out on the next RHS series.
The COMMANDOS remain perfect in Region 5-6A games and improve to 6-3 overall with the victory. Hendersonville (6-3) will return home next Friday night to finish the regular season against the West Creek (2-7) Coyotes. The game will be senior night for the COMMANDOS with senior night activities beginning at 6:30 and kickoff set for 7:00.
